The Monastery of Sounds is one of the few almost completely preserved monastery complexes in Westphalia.
The former Benedictine abbey of Marienmünster is located in the very north of the district of Höxter. Founded in 1128, it looks back on an eventful history. The baroque monastery complex with its magnificent abbey church, which is still largely intact today, was built after the devastation of the Thirty Years' War. While the restored Johann Patroklus Möller organ can be heard again in the abbey church, renowned musicians can be heard in the concert hall of the converted barns. The adjoining visitor center offers multimedia information about the region's monasteries. One highlight is the map projected onto the floor, which allows visitors to interactively call up animations and information films. In the newly created monastery garden, medicinal plants spray their soothing scents over the entire grounds.
