From Detmold train station, we take the familiar route via Berlebeck and Fromhausen to Horn and on towards Veldrom. We ride past the tractor museum in Kempen through the remote valley of the Durbeke ( = dry Beke) towards Neuenbeken and enjoy the view of the small viaduct near Neuenbeken. Passing numerous wind turbines, we reach Paderborn city center via Benhausen. During a final break, there is time for a short visit to the impressive Paderborn Cathedral. (There is also a bust of John Paul II here). Here we are already in the area of the 200 springs of Germany's shortest river, which we take a look at before following the Pader to its confluence with the Lippe directly at Neuhaus Castle, the location of the Paderborn Cycling Day.
At Neuhaus Castle we stop for 1.5 hours for refreshments and to see the sights of the 23rd Paderborn Cycling Day.
The return journey begins away from the main roads on the Senner cycle path towards Hövelhof.
