Familienvariante Paderborner Höhenweg

The starting point of the family version of the Paderborn High Trail is the small hiking parking lot on the asphalt forest path "Hasenhohl". You can easily recognize it by the information board at the parking lot.
We cross the asphalt path and head into the narrow footpath. Here you will already see the first information board about the animals that live in the forest. Our path winds its way through the beech forest. At the edge of the forest, we come to a gravel path. At this point, we have a beautiful view of Neuenbeken, Benhausen and Bad Lippspringe as far as the Teutoburg Forest. A picnic area is ideal for a first rest here.
We follow the gravel path to the right. Now comes the next task, which involves imitating the locomotion of various animals. As soon as this is finished, it's time to "Keep your eyes open!" There are a number of animals hidden in the forest that need to be found: a stag, a doe with fawn and a roebuck, two badgers, a bat, a kite, two squirrels, a woodpecker, a brook with six newborns and a fox. While searching for animals, we come to a crossroads where there is a green raised hide. We turn right, the Paderborn High Trail turns left here. At the next crossroads, at the Förster Funke oak tree, we continue straight ahead.
Before we have discovered the last metal animal, the fox, we see the "Mucksmäuschenstill" listening station on the left of the path, where we try out how quietly we can sneak along the path. About 150 meters after the listening station, we turn right. After about 300 meters on this natural path, we reach the large climbing station, which was specially constructed for the family version.
150 meters further on, we come to a wide asphalt path. We turn right and after 60 meters reach a junction of two asphalt paths. There we turn slightly left onto a nature trail. We follow this for almost 500 meters and pass the animal call station. After crossing a logging road, our nature trail leads us directly past the "beech tree with two legs" and finally meets a wide gravel forest path right next to the "hut to the beech tree with two legs". Here we continue our hike to the left. Shortly afterwards, the forest path leads downhill before reaching a T-junction at the edge of the forest. We continue along the gravel path to the right and see the next large sign in front of us, which is about animals that live in the upper storeys of the forest.
At the edge of the forest, the gravel path bends to the left. Here we turn right onto a forest path, but before doing so we should definitely enjoy the view of Bad Lippspringe, the Senne and the Teutoburg Forest. At the point where the path bends to the right, we keep slightly to the left and shortly afterwards see several yew trees, some upright stones, a memorial stone on the left and a 4.50 meter high oak cross a little further on. We have reached the plague cemetery, which was established here almost 400 years ago during the Thirty Years' War.
We follow the path and reach a footpath, which we follow to the left. It is now just under 400 meters to our starting point. Before we reach it, we pass the balancing beam and an information board presenting the animals that can be seen on the beam: Common toad, fire salamander, mole, earthworm and smooth snake. Shortly afterwards, we reach the hiking parking lot and thus the end point of our hike.

Hiking boots, drinks and provisions are recommended.

Take the A 33 freeway to the Pad-Zentrum exit, then the B 64 in the direction of Bad Driburg to the Neuenbeken exit. From the B 64 or from Neuenbeken, take district road 1 (Am Henkelberge) until you see a gray barn. At the barn, turn onto the asphalt road.
At the next fork in the road, take the right-hand (= wider) alternative ("Hasenhohl") and drive about 500 meters to the small parking lot.

Parking for cars is available in the parking lot on the forest path "Hasenhohl" (Navigation destination address: Hasenhohl, 33100 Paderborn).

Unfortunately, it is not possible to travel by public transport.
