Schloss Brincke Trail | Circular hiking trail in Borgholzhausen

The 6.7 km family-friendly circular hiking trail starts from the parking lot on Barnhauser Straße. The circular trail is marked on both sides.

The landscape is characterized by a culturally and historically shaped alternation between flat undulating farmland and a finger-like, branched system of drains with predominantly grassland use. The originally V-shaped notch valleys were given a box-like shape by man in order to enable more economical use of the undulating and sometimes swampy stream valleys.

Brincke Castle is located on the hiking trail. The important moated castle complex is one of the most beautiful in the whole of East Westphalia. The complex includes the magnificent manor house from 1674, built on wooden stilts and surrounded by a double moat system. The neo-Romanesque castle chapel from 1898 contains a valuable triumphal cross. A brand new museum/archive building has been erected between the chapel and the manor house, in which the centuries-old history of the noble family has found a sustainable home.

In the immediate vicinity is the Brinker Mühle, a historically valuable grain and oil mill from the mid-19th century with a preserved grinder. The mill with its neo-Gothic decorative elements is one of the most important water mills in Westphalia. Today it houses the studio of the artist Johannes Schepp. Visits are possible by appointment by telephone on 05425 - 1715.
