Weserhafen Vlotho, Hafenstraße / Am Fährhof

The unsignposted nature tour through Vlotho and the surrounding area is a perfect circular route for all nature lovers.

The route starts and finishes at the Weser harbor in Vlotho.

The ascent into the Vlothoer Bergland begins at the lowest point of the tour, on the banks of the Weser. Leaving the old harbor, you can admire the successful measures for near-natural water development along the Linnenbeeke.
The route then continues past a wet meadow and a species conservation area to Hammerschmiede. After a visit to the Vlotho spa gardens, the trail climbs up to the Kleiner Selberg at 238 m. There is a notable stand of juniper heath here and a bird with the conspicuous name of red-backed shrike can be spotted on nearby bushes in summer.
Further on to the Eiberg, there is a wonderful view over the Lipper Bergland. A grassy path leads along a network of hedges before returning via the Wittekindstein only downhill to the Weser.

Further information on the route and the waypoints can be found on the cycle leisure homepage of the district of Herford: www.fahr-im-kreis.de. You can also download an audioguide and a brochure from there.
