Nature discovery trail nature experiences - various

The stork station offers a great opportunity to observe storks all year round and watch them raise their young.

The district of Elbrinxen is also affectionately known as Strochendorf. The reason for this is the stork station where numerous young storks are born every spring. The idyllic stork site, which covers around 2500 square meters, is located directly on the Wörmke river, which flows through the village. The site is home to numerous pairs of white storks and their young. Every spring, the seven pairs of storks from Elbrinx build nests for their offspring on nest bases specially built for the storks. Each pair incubates three to four eggs for 33 days until the 20 or so young are born in May. A camera attached to one of the nests transmits images to the clubhouse so that the young can be observed as they are reared. The clattering of the storks can be heard from afar during this time. It is particularly exciting when the young storks make their first attempts at flying and, just a few days later, make their first rounds over the village with their parents and search for treats in the fields.

In mid to late August, the young storks head south, followed a few weeks later by their parents. Thanks to a marking on their feet, the origin of the animals in Elbrinx can always be traced. However, four pairs feel at home in Elbrinxen and spend the winter here. Thanks to the caring support of the stork association, the animals want for nothing even in winter.
