Spa/healing spring Waters Park/gardens nature experiences - various

The headwaters of the Lippe gave the town its name.

In the immediate vicinity of the castle ruins, the Lippe "jumps", takes its course and flows into the Rhine 255 kilometers further on near Wesel. The deep blue spring pond is popularly known as "Odinsauge". Legend has it that the almighty Germanic father of the gods "Odin" tore out his eye and threw it into the dry landscape of the Senneland to bless it with moisture and flourishing life. There is a platform at the castle from which you can look directly into the spring trough of the Lippe from above.

In the 8th century AD (776,780,782), Charlemagne and his army camped at the "springs of the Lippe" to hold imperial assemblies here. The source of the Lippe emerges from a depth of around 8 meters. With a flow rate of around 740 liters per second, it is one of the most powerful river springs in Germany.
