Vantage point/Observation tower nature experiences - various

Popular excursion destination with a very historical background.

The decision to build a Bismarck Tower on the Stuckenberg in Herford was made on October 26, 1904 at the Hotel Görges in Herford (successor to the Hotel Stadt Bremen). After around two years of planning and construction, the tower was built by the Herford company Althoff und Lakemeier according to a design by Dipl.-Ing. W. Oldemeyer from Spenge and inaugurated on September 2, 1906 with a large turnout from the Herford population. Contemporary reports speak of around 5,000 people!

The total height of the structure is 23 m, the height of the first platform 18 m. In 1906, the construction costs amounted to 15,500.00 marks, all of which were raised through donations from citizens of Herford and abroad, including some from the USA. Sandstone from the local region was used as the building material, and a trolley train from Exter to Stuckenberg was set up especially for this purpose.
