Mill historical building Venue

Königsmühle Seelenfeld

Dating back to 1731, the Königsmühle Seelenfeld is a Dutch windmill and is one of the oldest mills. It was built by the Prussian government after the introduction of compulsory milling (1721), which forced farmers to grind only on royal mills, as evidenced by a stone plaque above the entrance door with the inscription "FWR 1731" (Fridericus Wilhelmus Rex, King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia). Milling continued here until 1957, when the mill was placed under a preservation order. It has a conical body made of quarrystone and an embankment with a passageway; its cap is shingled. A "mill group" looks after its maintenance and upkeep and organizes several mill days a year, on which grinding and baking take place in public.
