Evidence of industrial glass production

Industrial glass production in the Driburg area dates back to the 16th century. Today, the ten-cornered Uhdenhütte is the only remaining glassworks building from the early days of industrialization in northern Germany. Remains of an underground glass furnace and an annealing lehr have been preserved. It is named after Simon August Uhden, the founder of the glass manufactory, which existed from 1829 to 1911. From 1987 to 1989, the glassworks was restored on the initiative of the Neuenbeken associations.
