Vantage point/Observation tower

The 393m high Bielstein is located in the Hiddesen district of Demold and is nestled in the Lippe Forest, which is part of the Teutoburg Forest. Very close to the heavily wooded mountain towers the 386m high Grotenburg, on which the Hermann monument stands. Between Bielstein and Grotenburg is the idyllic Heidental valley, which is popular with hikers and through which the Heidenbach stream flows.

The 298m-high Bielstein base network transmitter or Teutoburger Wald transmitter has stood on the Bielstein since 1951. It collapsed in January 1985, restricting radio and television reception for 2 million people. 230 tons of steel collapsed due to weather conditions, among other things. In mid-1986, the transmitter with a height of 302m was rebuilt after more than a year of working with limited transmission power. In the meantime, the mast has been shortened by 4m to a height of 298m due to the new DVBT TV
