Museum Huelsmann

The museum presents European art and international design.

Masterpieces of European arts and crafts from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classicism offer a compact educational trail through the stylistic eras. The holdings of courtly silverware, rare porcelain, glass and treasury art, as well as furniture, clocks and scientific instruments are outstanding. The collection of Asian art forms a separate section. The exhibition is based on a prominent private collection that was donated to the city of Bielefeld in 1984. It is supplemented by the estate of the poet Hertha Koenig, who was associated with the Rilke circle.  The renowned landscape architect Adelheid Gräfin Schönborn was responsible for designing the beautiful historic garden of the director's villa from 1865 according to the original plans.

The Huelsmann Museum is located in the former director's villa of the Ravensberger Spinnerei, a building dating back to 1865. The exhibition rooms in the neighboring White Villa are expressly dedicated to modern design. Changing special exhibitions in cooperation with renowned museums in Germany and abroad expand the thematic offering, as does an extensive educational program.
