Ehemaliges Franziskanerkloster

Built in 1749 in the Baroque style, the monastery was abolished in 1812 through secularization. It was used by farmers for a long time, later as a hospital and is now a Catholic parish and cultural center. The "Culture in the Monastery" program offers diverse entertainment with well-known cabaret artists and newcomers.

The Franciscan monastery is located in the town center. Its foundation goes back to the Franciscans.

In 1713/14, the cathedral provost Michael Nueber from Brünn, who was born in Lügde, originally donated two of his family's houses in Lügde to the Jesuits to found a branch. However, the settlement did not take place because the magistrate spoke out against it. It is likely that the Jesuits then left the donation to the Franciscans, probably in 1734. After receiving permission from the prince-bishop's authority in Paderborn in 1739, the Franciscans then began to build the monastery on the site of the "Nübersche Stiftung" foundation in Lügde in 1749. The foundation stone was laid on August 12, 1749. Construction of the monastery building was completed in 1752. The church with its typical baroque gable was begun the following year. It was consecrated on September 5, 1756.

Three fathers and five lay brothers came to Lügde. The main purpose of their branch was to provide pastoral care in the diaspora bordering Lügde.

The Franciscans took over the pastoral care established by Lügde in Pyrmont, Hameln and Rinteln. They also set up a primary school class. The Franciscans also excelled in works of charity.

The branch only existed for around 60 years. The monastery was abolished and sold by King Jerome (a brother of Napoleon) in 1812. The building then served various purposes (mainly as a storage facility). The Catholic parish then acquired the building in 1859 at a price of 10,000 thalers. With financial support from the town (4,000 thalers), the convent was extended and turned into a hospital. The nurses came from Dernbach (Poor Handmaids of Christ). The hospital was opened on October 2, 1860, although the monastery's church building (with its baroque gable) was temporarily used for other purposes (storage). Hospital operations were discontinued in 1958. The building then served as a private retirement home until 31.12.1970 (part of the building). In 1974 and 1975, the church and building were converted into a parish and youth home for the Catholic parish of "Sankt Marien". The property was completely renovated between 1997 and 1999 through general conversion measures for the purpose of setting up a kindergarten and a day care center for the elderly, relocation of the monastery hall and the like.
